Poem: "A Kitten's Ball Of String"

~~~
A Kitten's Ball Of String
The words we say, confusing, and tangled with emotions;
like string balls kittens play with, becoming loose and frayed.
Our threads of conversation, can roll in all directions,
causing knots; encumbering the progress we have made.
Thoughtful consideration with words we use conveying
the things of most importance,  not carelessly to fling.
The words we say may lead us into unplanned confrontations-
guarding our emotion stops a kitten’s ball of string!
Poem: Steps To The Rest Of My Life
Travels through life...
Steps To The Rest Of My Life
Today I will pause on the way to tomorrow,
reflecting on yesterday.
I’ll examine the reasons for my pain and my sorrow-
determine which debts to repay!
I’ll retrace the steps that led me so far,
to this cold place of darkness and fear.
And I’ll slay the dragons - if they still exist -
and the demons that invited me here!
I’ll leave them in ashes and never look back,
get rid of the pain and the strife.
I’ll, tentatively, take my first steps to the future-
those steps to the rest of my life.
Poem: The World Rolls By
"The World Rolls By"
This year...
I’ve known some changes,
more than I did expect;
much more than I could welcome
-or imagine or predict.
The things I took for granted,
that brought smiles to my face
-and made me feel so warm, secure-
no longer are in place.
Oh, change can be expected,
no longer will I doubt,
or hold on to a fantasy...
(That’s not what life’s about!)
nor look through rosy glasses,
regardless of the hue!
I’ll face the world with open eyes...
accepting what is true.
The world rolls by for others,
as if things are the same...
But do they suffer silently...
as lives are rearranged?
Poem_ "Tears"
(posted on FB)
‎~Poem~
Tears
Tears to scald my eyes
keep coming, uninvited!
Pain to sear my heart-
invading, unexpected!
Words to wound my soul
keep flowing, flowing ever
from the one I’ve loved for always,
faithfully!
Hurt, so deep and dark,
mistrust forever growing,
doubt forever showing,
love-our love- escaping.
My Love-is our love leaving…
as lost as sleep we’re missing,
lying close -not touching-
but tossing sleeplessly?
    • Life is a mix of Happy and SAD moments and we experience all of it if we live long enough! Strangely, tho, the sad times often come early in life and things 'even-out ' as we get older!
      :)
      ...THAT'S a cheery thought - yes?? :)
Poem: Just Words
~
 Just Words
Loving and Losing
Changes, beginnings
Sighing and crying,
Leaving and endings
Deceptions, forgiveness,
Lying, betraying,
Trusting, Not trusting
Not sleeping, still praying
Tossing and turning
 Hoping, despairing
 Confusions...Not knowing
 Illusions... still caring
Wondering and trying,
Wanting and waiting
 Sparring, and scarring,
 With constant berating
The End Of A Day
The end of a day~
the end of our time~
the slipping away~
the leaving behind...
The loose ends untied,
all tattered and frayed;
uncertainty builds,
as trust is betrayed.
Holding on tight,
but floundering, still;
not wanting to know
the sorrow I feel.
The end of our time
at the end of this day~
the leaving behind~
the slipping away...
Poem: Fantasy and Reality
~~~

Fantasy and Reality

Where fantasy ends - reality begins.

Let me find that place and start anew.
When make believe  dies and all hope ends,
let me  accept the loss and make it through.

Life’s journeys will take us far and wide.
Uncharted roads can render blind...
and we are enticed down
paths,
unknown...
regardless of what we leave behind.

  With passing time this fantasy
reveals it’s face as false and trite,
lacking substance and lacking truth;
blurring lines of wrong and right.

Let me find a shred of the real me, still,
enough to build and restore again;
to recapture me as I was before.
Let me come  full circle  - in the end.

Poem: Today I Feel So Restless (a Re-post-again!)

~Re-post from 2006~

Poem: Today I Feel So Restless & To blog or Not to blog

To blog or Not to blog....

...that is the question!

And the answer probably should be NO for today, since I'm in such a down mood. I feel like I am just floundering with no direction !

One reason is I had a restless night- bad dreams!
... And , someone , please tell me dreams do not mean anything!!! If they do I'm in Big trouble!

Looking out my window I see lots of things to make me feel happy! It's a perfect spring day- the kind that usually brings a smile to my face! Maybe the day can eventually work it's magic on me! I hope so!

I am listening to Jackson Browne today and although I love his music he tends to write sad lyrics so maybe it's not my best choice for today!

Could be worse though, I could be playing Leonard Cohen :)

( a feeble attempt at a joke- so things are looking up!! :) )

~~~~~~~
...a sad poem to fit my mood...
Today I Feel So Restless
Today I feel so restless, with nothing calling me.
Nothing grabs my interest, or guides me to explore.
There’s naught I want to do - no folks I want to see.
So I’ll pull my shades and stay behind my door!
There are stacks of books I’ve hoarded, for days just like today,
and music I’ve been meaning to give a listen to.
There are phone calls I should make, and bills that I could pay!
But my life’s on Hold, because I’m missing you!
It’s, so, like a paralysis, this inability.
I find it all so taxing… to move myself along.
The simple chores of living are not what they should be,
becoming worse each day that you are gone.
I’ll make it through this day. I know I will, somehow.
Tomorrow - I might be with you again.
Just seeing you once more, will change my WOE to smiles.
Until that time this loneliness will win!
Poem: The Ones We Love
~~~

The Ones We Love

The years have gone so quickly!
Unseeing - unaware-
we stood in our own ignorance,
blind to what was there.

Basking in the moment,
of love - security!
Not noticing the changes,
we now, so plainly see.

We thought because we loved them,
(and always let them know)
that fact would help in smoothing
the ways they chose to go.

They’re flung into life’s fickleness,
not tethered anymore.
Each day we see they’ve drifted
much farther than before.

We fight this helpless feeling...
( no longer can deny…)
that we can’t help them anymore,
no matter how we try.

Poem~ Just Words

***

Just Words

Here we are, my one true love,
together-you and me.
Against all odds,
we’ve braved the storms-
faced all adversity.

We’ve climbed the hills
and boulders - moved-
together; found our way.
We’ve fought the fights
...our choices made...
to bring us to this day.

As in a dream, we’ve traveled far,
the paths not always clear.
Only love- the one sure thing-
could lead us both to ’here!’

And in this place and on this day
is where I want to be.
All we have, I will embrace...
this love surrounding me.

Poem: We Won't Have This Day Again

~~~
~~~

We Won’t Have This Day Again

The summer days are swiftly passing.
Another fall will soon be here.
Winter enters, with a flurry,
and soon is gone - another year!

As we age, the years seem shorter.
In a flash, the days go by.
We come to know our limitations -
if not all the reasons why!

We pick and choose our undertakings…
the things we do from day to day.
We try to fill the empty spaces,
of what we’ve missed along the way.

We know, fully, time is fleeting,
with no way to reign it in!
We take each day and what it offers!
We won’t have this day again!

Poem: Reflections

...This little poem - though, not correct in form- says a lot about the changes in our lives...

Reflections

These days I seldom witness
children lying in the grass,
gazing skyward, making figures of the clouds.

This is of the past!

Flowers of the meadow,
mostly, go un-noticed and un-picked.
Lost now, to the masses!
Replaced by games - hand-held-
of flickering figures, fighting, flickering figures!

What a trick!

Is summer still enticing,
with sprinklers slinging water in luscious swirls?
With children dressed in summer garb
to frolic, roll and tumble;

Was this another world?

Do families still take meals together,
with all TV screens and games shut down, momentarily?
Is there sharing of the happenings of the day, of one and all?
Sadly, I would have to say,

” No, not ordinarily!”

Pondering

~~~
This is nothing to do with Christmas...nothing to do with anything at all- just some random thoughts I've had recently.
~~~

Isn’t life strange?

It escapes me completely, sometimes...
Still, at times I think I have a handle on things...JUST SOMETIMES... not often enough to make a difference, really!

The people who enter into my life are a mystery ...a puzzle never to be completed. Some of the essential pieces are missing... chewed up and swallowed by the hounds of times passed!

A safe, cool, calm place is where I, so, long to be!

Yet, here am I, caught up in working puzzles with missing pieces!

Poem: Alone, In The Garden

~~~
Alone, in the Garden
Alone, in the garden, she‘s sitting,
surrounded by roses and fern…
and ivy that twines ever upward,
as if for the sky it does yearn.
She sits there with just her own memories,
randomly keeping her company…
of days long passed - of loved ones she’s lost…
of things that are never to be.
She relives those days as they’re passing…
as if on a screen for her eyes…
the good times she’s known, as well as the bad.
No controlling, so she doesn’t try.
As she sits there alone with her musings,
so often the questions are there...of ...
“What if I’d taken a different road?
Would fate still have guided me here?”
As the ivy keeps growing and seeking,
so, her thoughts are doing the same.
Her memories entwined as the ivy,
in reviewing her life story’s game.
The thing about life, there’s no game plan.
We are winging it – all of the way.
We’re tossed, to and fro, by warm winds or ill;
it’s thus from our very first day.
In the end we are all left to ponder
- in our garden of old memories-
to try and untangle and sort it all out
...life’s infinite mysteries!
The Words Said ~ ( a repeat )
The Words Said
The words said…sometimes so harsh and cruel.
They leave scars that never fully heal.
They crust over with a covering, superficial,
that only serves, from others, to conceal.
Still, the wound is there below the surface,
and subject to eruptions, evermore.
The careless deeds and hurtful words once spoken,
prevent the healing of this hidden sore.
Words flung out in anger are like daggers.
They pierce the soul and penetrate the heart.
Deflating any feelings of wellbeing.
Leaving loneliness that never will depart.
Still, we search for simple understanding…
make excuses - try to rationalize.
And every time the scab, again, is broken
it manages to take us by surprise.
