Poem: Letting Go

Letting Go

I thought I glimpsed in you
a thing so sweet and pure...
endearing to the heart
 as babies’ smiles can be.

I held close that illusion,
kept it safe - secure-

 still, the truth was there
and  struggled to be free.

I pushed away all doubts.
Tuned out unwanted vibes.
I culled through all your words
and kept a few to treasure.

I never lost the faith.
I never gave up trying,
or hoping that the pain
 would be outweighed by pleasure.

Sleep, now, is slow in coming,

still, when it comes you’re there,
 until- again- behind
your armored walls you flee!

Just as you are in daylight-
enclosed in walls of stone-

 the doorway hidden well,
so no one can see.

I feel the time is nearing
when I must set you free...
to let go of my dreams
and all of my illusions.

My days, I find, are muddled.
My mind is in a whirl!
…So weary of this pain
and living in confusion.

Poem: Just Words

~

 Just Words

Loving and Losing
Changes, beginnings
Sighing and crying,
Leaving and endings

Deceptions, forgiveness,
Lying, betraying,
Trusting, Not trusting
Not sleeping, still praying

Tossing and turning
 Hoping, despairing
 Confusions...Not knowing
 Illusions... still caring

Wondering and trying,
Wanting and waiting
 Sparring, and scarring,
 With constant berating

A Red Red Rose

a poem by Robert Burns

O my Luve's like a red, red rose
That's newly sprung in June;
O my Luve's like the melodie
That's sweetly played in tune.

As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in luve am I;
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
Till a' the seas gang dry:

Till a' the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt wi' the sun;
I will luve thee still, my dear,
While the sands o' life shall run.

And fare thee weel, my only Luve,
And fare thee weel awhile!
And I will come again, my Luve,
Tho' it ware ten thousand mile.

Poem: Love Can Be

~~

Love Can Be

Love can be heavy, like a stone…
to drag you down…to make you weep.
Sometimes you trip, sometimes you fall,
if love’s too dense or piled too steep.

Love can be tiresome along the way.
Sometimes you wish you were alone…
free of all those barricades,
along this road you both are on.

Love can be clinging - like a vine-
securely tangle… tightly hold!
Sometimes you feel you cannot breathe-
as so snugly, love enfolds.

Love can be arrogant - so unkind-
filled with jealousy and spite.
You’re baffled by the changing scene…
and sometimes have the urge for flight.

Still… often love is soft and sweet,
as if the trials were just a test.
And, sometimes love can be so grand,
it tends to cancel out the rest!

Poem~ Just Words

***

Just Words

Here we are, my one true love,
together-you and me.
Against all odds,
we’ve braved the storms-
faced all adversity.

We’ve climbed the hills
and boulders - moved-
together; found our way.
We’ve fought the fights
...our choices made...
to bring us to this day.

As in a dream, we’ve traveled far,
the paths not always clear.
Only love- the one sure thing-
could lead us both to ’here!’

And in this place and on this day
is where I want to be.
All we have, I will embrace...
this love surrounding me.

Poem: Reflections

...This little poem - though, not correct in form- says a lot about the changes in our lives...

Reflections

These days I seldom witness
children lying in the grass,
gazing skyward, making figures of the clouds.

This is of the past!

Flowers of the meadow,
mostly, go un-noticed and un-picked.
Lost now, to the masses!
Replaced by games - hand-held-
of flickering figures, fighting, flickering figures!

What a trick!

Is summer still enticing,
with sprinklers slinging water in luscious swirls?
With children dressed in summer garb
to frolic, roll and tumble;

Was this another world?

Do families still take meals together,
with all TV screens and games shut down, momentarily?
Is there sharing of the happenings of the day, of one and all?
Sadly, I would have to say,

” No, not ordinarily!”

Poem: Alone, In The Garden

~~~
Alone, in the Garden
Alone, in the garden, she‘s sitting,
surrounded by roses and fern…
and ivy that twines ever upward,
as if for the sky it does yearn.
She sits there with just her own memories,
randomly keeping her company…
of days long passed - of loved ones she’s lost…
of things that are never to be.
She relives those days as they’re passing…
as if on a screen for her eyes…
the good times she’s known, as well as the bad.
No controlling, so she doesn’t try.
As she sits there alone with her musings,
so often the questions are there...of ...
“What if I’d taken a different road?
Would fate still have guided me here?”
As the ivy keeps growing and seeking,
so, her thoughts are doing the same.
Her memories entwined as the ivy,
in reviewing her life story’s game.
The thing about life, there’s no game plan.
We are winging it – all of the way.
We’re tossed, to and fro, by warm winds or ill;
it’s thus from our very first day.
In the end we are all left to ponder
- in our garden of old memories-
to try and untangle and sort it all out
...life’s infinite mysteries!
Poem: Anything Will Do
... a new posting of an old poem.
~~~

Anything Will Do

Come talk to me, my love,

about the oceans blue-

the fishes swimming in them-

and the dolphins, too!

Or politics - the price of gas-

or places we could go!

We’ll talk of summer’s stifling heat,

and how you long for snow!

We’ll talk birds or butterflies!

Chicken vs. beef!

Pizza - thick or thin crust?

How many hours we sleep!

We’ll talk of songs we cherish!

The bands we love to hear!

The current book we’re reading.

The people we hold dear.

We can talk of favorite sports…

the ones we like the most!

Or even supernatural stuff!

(“Hey, do you believe in ghosts?”)

We can talk of silly things-

trivial or absurd!

Or, events that are earth shattering…

the worst we’ve ever heard!

We’ll share things that have passed us,

or what’s happening today!

Because there’s trust between us,

there’s nothing we can’t say.

Come talk to me, my love.

We’ll talk Artichokes, or Corn!

Or the stars above us, twinkling.

Or how the universe was born.

Poem: My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose ( Robert Burns )

My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose

by Robert Burns

My love is like a red red rose
That’s newly sprung in June;
My love is like the melodie
That’s sweetly play’d in tune.

So fair (are you) art thou, my (beautiful darling, sweetheart) bonnie lass,
So deep in love am I;
And I will love (you) thee still, my dear,
Till a’ the seas (gone) gang dry.

Till a’ the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt wi’ the sun:
And I will love thee still, my dear,
While the sands o’ life shall run.

And (farewell to you) fare thee weel, my only love
And fare thee weel, a while!
And I will come again, my love,
Tho’ it were ten thousand mile.

Poems: 'Me' & 'Fantasy'

Some new poems!

Enjoy!

~~~
Me!
The heart of a poet.
The ways of a child.
The will of the weary,
who’s reached her last mile.
The soul of the lonely,
yet, still in the game;
just wanting fulfillment...
not fortune or fame.
A woman who loves
and who’s willing to give;
who’s seeking contentment...
a good life to live.
The heart of a poet
The ways of a child.
The will of the weary,
still walking the mile
Me!
Fantasy
I put my feelings on the line.
I put my heart out, in plain view.
I lavished love, so willingly...
the only way I knew.
Defenses left along the way.
In shattered heaps they’re lying, still.
And what was me - my heart - my soul -
was there for you to fill.
I put my all, there on the line.
My past I left, without a care.
Mountains crossed and bridges burned...
all on a hope and prayer.
That hope and prayer are flimsy now.
The love I nurtured, cannot be.
The dream was mine and mine alone...
but just a fantasy.
Poems for Valentine's Day
Poems
About Love and Valentines
( some old, some new ~ some happy, some bittersweet )
Come And Be My Valentine
Oh! Come and be My Valentine
and give your love to me.
Those words I’ve waited, long, to say
are wanting to be free!
Let’s put away our doubts and fears
and trust our hearts to know,
the way our lives were meant to be;
and how our love should grow.
Come hear the song that’s in my heart
that’s playing just for you.
No sweeter music could you know,
nor words, so pure and true.
Come with me, and be my love,
with all my life to share-
packed with hugs, and kisses -sweet-
this love, beyond compare!
Oh! Come and be My Valentine
and give your heart to me!
Together, we’ll declare our love,
for all the world to see.
WORDS
The time I spend with you, my love,
means more to me than I can say.
The little things you say and do,
bring sunshine to my darkest day!
When you’re near me, everything,
is dusted with your golden glow.
I’m trying hard to find the words-
those magic words - to let you know.
Words, I find, don’t say enough…
can’t express what’s here - inside!
So I falter and I fail…
no mind, how often I have tried.
A simple ‘I love you,’ it seems,
should be enough to satisfy.
But for you, there’s so much more-
more than those three words imply!
I’ll just have to tell you this,
you’re all the world to me - and more!
You’re everything my heart does crave.
You’re all that I’ve been longing for.
Come With Me, My Love
Come with me, my love
along the sandy shore.
We’ll watch the perfect sunset,
like none we’ve known before.
We’ll savor every moment,
enclosed in our embrace,
and watch the fading sun rays
until there is no trace!
We’ll walk the sun-warmed beaches,
until the evening’s chill
begins to turn us homeward…
with promises to fill.
If Only I Could
All this I would give you
if only I could.
Warm sunshine to soothe you.
A walk in the wood.
Bird song to enchant you.
Soft breezes to caress.
Blue skies to calm you-
to relieve all your stress!
Good friends to surround you-
just those, tried and true.
...And a love for a lifetime
I'd offer to you...
Sweet music to uplift you,
as only it would.
All this I would give you
if only I could.
I’ll Be The Moth
I’ll be the moth,
if you’re the flame.
I’ll seek the warmth
you offer me.
You’ll be my guiding light,
on shore,
if I’m the ship that’s
lost at sea.
I’ll be the flowers-
you, the rain.
What would have withered
now will grow.
You’ll be the song
that’s in my heart.
I’ll find a way
to let you know.
~A poem I wrote - 2006 ~~~ another re-run~
My Love
These years we’ve been together,
down this road of life…
through calm or stormy weather…
through the pain and strife…
through the happiest of seasons that, so,
out weigh the rest…
sharing what we’ve treasured…
time has been our test!
Both learning, as time passes,
the craft of compromise…
how, overtime, things change a bit,
may take us by surprise.
Sometimes change feels threatening,
seems like the winter’s wind
that howls in it’s persistence,
impatient to come in.
Changes are just ripples,
can’t touch us - you must know-
or break the bond created,
all those years ago.
Poem: My Nights Are Long
My Nights Are Long
My nights are long and lonely.
So many thoughts invading.
Rendering nil and useless,
my feeble stabs at sleep.
Thoughts scuttling, to and fro,
of all the words we’ve spoken…
yet, many more left dangling-
unborn - or buried deep.
Past phrases leap and frolic.
Unanswered questions linger.
Meanings lost in limbo,
the two of us have found.
Be still! My weary soul
is needing rest and solace.
Still, endlessly, the memories
continue swirling ‘round!
At last, sleep is descending;
so deep that dreams can‘t follow.
And for the moment resting
- the puzzle - ‘You and Me.’
This welcomed rest I covet,
embrace it, seek to hold it!
For these fleeting hours…
I know that I am free.
Poem: Tears
Tears
Tears to scald my eyes
keep coming, un-invited!
Pain to sear my heart
invading, un-expected!
Words to wound my soul
keep flowing, flowing, ever
from the one I’ve loved for always,
faithfully!
Hurt, so deep and dark.
Mistrust forever growing.
Doubt forever showing.
Love- our love- escaping.
My Love, “Is our love leaving?”
“As lost as sleep we’re missing,
lying close - not touching-
but tossing sleeplessly?”
