Limericks for Thanksgiving

Limericks for Thanksgiving

The turkey is stuffed and is browning!

The pies with whipped cream get their crowning!

The potatoes are whipped

with parsley fresh snipped!

Not one of our faces are frowning!

~~

The cranberry sauce we did open,

this long held tradition-unbroken.

Our plates we hold ready!

The aroma is heady!

Our thanks for this meal have been spoken!

Brenda's Photo Challenge! Poem: Halloween Witch

~~~
Halloween Witch
She rides through the night
by the light of the moon,
the Halloween Witch,
on her magical broom!
And always beside her
the black cat will stay,
to help with the mischief
and tricks she will play.
They're partners in mischief
who fly through the night,
causing much trouble
and causing much fright!
If you're out on this night,
I warn you, "Beware!"
They're sure to be waiting
to give you a scare!
Watch out for those two!
They are sure to be seen,
out, making their mischief
on this Halloween!
Poem: We Won't Have This Day Again
~~~

~~~
We Won’t Have This Day Again
The summer days are swiftly passing.
Another fall will soon be here.
Winter enters, with a flurry,
and soon is gone - another year!
As we age, the years seem shorter.
In a flash, the days go by.
We come to know our limitations -
if not all the reasons why!
We pick and choose our undertakings…
the things we do from day to day.
We try to fill the empty spaces,
of what we’ve missed along the way.
We know, fully, time is fleeting,
with no way to reign it in!
We take each day and what it offers!
We won’t have this day again!
Watching Mr. Squirrel (Nature Poem)
( This is a little fun poem I wrote a few years ago. I have posted it before but I got some cute Pics recently of Mr.Squirrel, so here it is again! )
Watching Mr. Squirrel
At the first hint of chill of Autumn days
the pace accelerates, and he scurries, to and fro.
Gathering seeds and nuts to hide in secret places,
that only he, alone, can know…
long before the winter snow!
He must know of the old adage,
(Of not putting all your eggs in one basket)
as he follows this rule with his winter store of treats!
He digs holes among the roots of trees,
and more among the hedges, and behind the garden gate!
This ritual, he does repeat!
So...when the snows of winter come,
so snug, I know, he’ll be;
in his nest- high in the tree!
He'll venture out just long enough ,
retrieving treats he’s storing now
from hiding places,
unknown by all…
except for him-
and –ME!
Poem: Winter's Coming On
Winter’s Coming On
Winter’s coming on.
The year is winding down.
Autumn’s color, gone-
her leaves piled on the ground.
The chill is in the air-
and soon there will be snow.
But we’ll keep warm and cozy,
as north winds start to blow.
We’ll sit next to the fire,
with blankets tucked in neat.
We’ll cuddle - you and I, my love -
as embers warm our feet.
We’ll have our tea or coffee,
our steamy cups to hold
up close before our faces;
to help combat the cold.
Fire logs will be handy,
Piled up in stacks so high.
We won’t meet winter, unprepared,
and never would we try!
Poem: Face of Fall ~~~~Got side tracked organizing my old picture albums...
Found this 'End of Summer' pic so thought it fit pretty well with this poem !
Funny how things change! ;)
We were on our yearly summer trip - returning from Alabama. (1972) We were in North Florida. (not too much further north than where we would, finally, end up living!)
We stopped at this park and cut a watermelon. I remember it was very refreshing! :)
The funny part is ME! LOL-Can't believe I was dressed that way for a long, hot, car trip home; even down to pantyhose- and those nylon slips that would CLING to the stockings- no matter what you did! LOL- The wind could flip my skirt- but that slip would cling!
hahaha!!!
...a late summer poem...
